The OpenLayers interface is uncomplicated and fairly intuitive. Here is a quick round-up of its features and a few tips on its use.
Layer Switcher
This is the control on the right hand side, which you can show(+) and hide(-). Typically you can select one base layer and switch the overlay(s) on and off as required.
Navigator
This is the control at the top on the left hand side. There are up/down and left/right arrows for moving around in the map. The map can also be dragged.
Zoom Bar
This is the control on the left hand side below the navigator. Zoom in(+) or out(-) by clicking top or bottom, or drag the slider up or down. Clicking the zoom positions works too. Hold down the shift key and drag to zoom to a particular region. Double-clicking anywhere in the map will zoom in there.
GetFeatureInfo Request
When overlays are switched on be careful where you click because clicking anywhere in the map queries the server(s) for information about features at that point. A separate window will appear with information if any is available. You can keep this window open - it will be updated each time you click in a new position. Both windows (map and info) can be sized and moved as required, and you can even copy info to other applications. Type font and size can be customised in browser settings.
