Release Notes
The material released in 2023 constitute an important 'catch-update'. Here are some of the highlights.
- Updated Debian (from 10 to 11).
Debian 11 became the current stable release back in 2021. It was time for us to move on.
In order to support the latest Intel ethernet connectors we were using a backported v11 kernel in v10.
- Updated Python (from 2 to 3).
Sunsetting Python 2 started back in 2020. A Debian 11 base system only requires Python 3.
All our Python programs have now been converted, and the Leo editor used in development upgraded.
- Updated PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
The Debian 11 distribution includes PostgreSQL 13, first released in 2020, and PostGIS 3.1, also released in 2020.
- Updated GeoServer.
GeoServer 2.22.0 Release is installed. This has a number of new features.
- Managed SSL Certificates.
Let's Encrypt certificates are now managed by getssl, in conjunction with a DNS-01 challenge.
The recommended Certbot client, and HTTP-01 challenge, was found to be susceptible to interference.
- Updated OpenLayers app (JavaScript framework from 5 to 6).
Version 6.0 introduced many new features. Version 6.15 is the last in the 6 line. The latest versions is 8.
